Wireless Earbuds

Apple AirPods Pro

Although they are expensive and only last for 4.5 hours, Apple’s AirPods Pro (8/10 WIRED Recommends), are the best wireless headphones available for anyone who uses Apple hardware (Mac, iPhone, iPad). Near-instant access to the company’s H1 chip.

Apple’s voice assistant can be activated by simply saying “Hey Siri”, and it will change your songs, send you texts, or add something to the shopping list. The AirPods Pro are IPX4 certified, so you don’t need to worry about them getting damaged if you get wet. You can recharge your AirPods Pro wirelessly with the included carrying case.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2

The Samsung Buds2 (9/10, Wired Recommends), are my favorite Android headphones. You get noise cancellation, better battery life (5 hour with noise cancelling, 7.5 hours if it is off), and some of the most lightweight, comfortable earbuds available. They are about the same price as standard AirPods. The Buds2 includes a wireless charging case as well as a dual-driver array to provide better bass. They are also available in pastel colors. Oraimo airbuds price is reasonable compared to similar featured models. It is easy to find new and refurbished Oraimo bluetooth speakers by visiting genuine and authorized sites.

The companion app is only available for Android. This means that iPhone users will not be able access the EQ controls, ping Samsung for the location of a missing earbud, or use Samsung Bixby voice assistant (no losses).

Master & Dynamic: MW07 Go

The Master and DynamicMW07 Go are our current favorite buds (9/10, WIRED Recommends), which have premium sound and an impressive battery life of 10 hours (12 more in the case). The water-resistant, MW07Go are better than expensive workout buds such as Beats’ Powerbeats Pro or Apple’s AirPods Pro. They also feel more comfortable thanks to the slotted silicone ear tips. The earbuds are easy to find and use while out and about with the play/pause and volume buttons at the top.

Grado GT220

Grado Labs’ no-frills headphones will give you an audiophile-like wireless listening experience. Brooklyn is well-known for its headphones and turntable cartridges. Grado Labs now offers wireless headphones. The GT220 (8/10 WIRED Recommends), are ergonomic and comfortable. They also deliver the same transparent sound quality as the company’s flagship headphones. Adrienne So, WIRED editor, says that they are so comfortable you don’t even need noise canceling.

They have an IPX4 rating and six hours battery life, which is a respectable specification. These headphones look good enough to be taken with you everywhere, as opposed to Grado’s flashier, larger headphones.

Amazon Echo Buds (2021)

Amazon’s second-generation Echo Buds (8/10, Wired Recommends), have all the bells & whistles of premium wireless earbuds, including noise cancelling, wireless charging, and great app-based customization. But the real reason to purchase them is their excellent Alexa integration. While you’re listening to music, the earbuds can listen to your voice and allow you to set timers, check weather conditions, add items to grocery lists, and more. Although it can be difficult to get used to, having a voice assistant with you throughout the day is a great help.

Other Buds We Like

Each month brings new earbuds, with better battery life and smaller designs. We can’t possibly list all the options. If you are still on the hunt, these are some suggestions.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus ($100). These were the pair that we reviewed and liked (8/10, Wired Recommends). They offer a comfortable fit and an 11-hour battery life.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, $220: Sennheiser’s high-end earbuds finally have noise cancelling. They are expensive, but you will get the best sound quality. They fix the bug that caused the Momentum 1 pair to die after about a week, even though you never used them.

Master & Dynamic’s MW07 Plus ($199),: Although they are larger and heavier than the MW07 Go, the Plus still has excellent noise-canceling technology.

Bowers & Wilkins’ PI7 (399): These are some of the most beautiful and sounding earbuds available. Two dedicated drivers are included with amps that produce a rich, dynamic sound. Also, AptX Adaptive support allows for 24-bit streaming. What are the downsides? The downside is that they only have four hours of battery life and noise cancelling on. That’s a steep price.

JBL/Under Armour Tru Wireless Flash $170: The second generation of JBL/Under Armour’s workout headphones is super stable thanks to the large, soft ear fins. These earbuds are expensive, but they offer 10 hours of battery life, Bluetooth® 5.0 for fast connection, and a pair of physical buttons that are embedded in the Under Armour logos. No annoying touch controls!

Why didn’t we include AirPods?

Wireless Earbuds that do not support Bluetooth 5.0 or have less than five hours of battery life should be avoided. Wireless headphones’ battery life will decrease over time so the longer your battery life, the more comfortable it will be after two to three years.

There are so many options that it’s hard to list all the earbuds that we don’t like. We do have to say that, while Apple’s AirPods are great at certain things, they just don’t suit us all that well. Read our review. They have an acceptable battery life, are compact and easy to use for calls. However, they won’t fit all ears well and don’t have wings or ear tips so if they get lost, they will not work. Do you want clear, high-quality music? You can get another pair of these headphones or the AirPods Pro (see below), which are a bit more expensive but still great headphones.
